The End Records has set an October 2 North American release date for the new album from Norway's ULVER, entitled "Shadows of the Sun".

The CD serves as the follow-up to 2004's "Blood Inside", the critically-acclaimed album that showcased the band's vibrant musical progression masterfully scripted amongst their unique vision, style and sound.

In regards to the direction of the new album, the band recently posted on its official site: "Many of you have been waiting for sound, and we are sorry for the silence. We needed to be alone, without the hustle and bustle of the living. We are uncomfortable with the world, the industry and our place. We have been working, sluggishly, well aware we could end up with nothing. Nonetheless we believe we have succeeded in giving our fears some kind of form. We feel it is our most personal record to date. Low-key, dark, and tragic. As we are."

THERION Side-Project DEMONOID Working On New Material

DEMONOID, the Swedish old-school death/thrash metal project featuring THERION members Kristian Niemann (guitar) and Johan Niemann (bass) along with former SOILWORK/CHIMAIRA drummer Richard Evensand, is working on material for its second full-length CD, tentatively due next year. "The writing for the new album is going quite well....it will crush," says Kristian. "Of course. Imagine a 100-ton block of concrete falling on your nutsack (or head, if you're a girl)....that's how much it will crush!!!!! Now if you don't have: a) a nutsack, nor b) a head, well then.....you just have to take my word for it!"

In other news, DEMONOID has secured the services of a new vocalist following the departure of THERION's Christofer Johnsson, who sang on the group's debut, 2004's "Riders of the Apocalypse". Although the band has yet to reveal the new frontman's identity, "I think you will all agree it's a pretty good choice," says Kristian. "We're very fortunate to have him. In fact, I wet myself every night just thinking about it. The man, the myth, the legend..."

According to the band's official bio, "the musical concept of DEMONOID is not symphonic metal like THERION; in fact, the band strived to go back in time and create a fresh and challenging combination of basically old school death and violent thrash metal elements, also mingled with a touch of modern black metal. Both Kristian and Johan have gotten into the more brutal forms of metal quite lately and some of their references are CRADLE OF FILTH and DIMMU BORGIR, while Christofer, having been the growler of THERION in earlier days, has extended knowledge of the thrash and death scene from late '80s and early '90s. Thus bands like SLAYER and BATHORY as well as all the old-school death metal bands from those the early times rank among his main references. Those facts create a very interesting combination, featuring Kristian's more than awesomely awesome guitar work, Christofer's by far best vocal performances up to now, Richard's insanely powerful and technical kick-ass drumming and Johan's crushing, inventive, heavy-as-a-brick-on-your-scrotum bass lines."

The recent rumors of Mastodon guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds being assaulted in Las Vegas, NV following his appearance at the "MTV Video Music Awards" this past Sunday just may be true with the bands management recently issuing the following statement:
"Mastodon guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds suffered a severe head injury after his performance on Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas. He is being treated by a Las Vegas hospital where he remains hospitalized."

"Former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen's video for the song "I Walk Alone", can be viewed at this location (Real Media). The clip was shot in Berlin, Germany with director Jörn Heitmann, who previously worked with NIGHTWISH on the "Sleeping Sun" clip in 2005. The "I Walk Alone" single will be released mid-October Universal Music, to be followed by a full-length CD, "My Winter Storm", on November 9."

A few words from Østen

" To our dear fans,

On behalf of Tristania, and myself, I would like to apologize for the silence from our camp these last few months. It has not been our intention to keep you in the dark, or to hide from our responsibility to inform you about what is really going on. We also apologize for the lack of updates on tristania.com, it has been neglected for too long. Both the band and the webmaster promise to make sure that the site will be updated more frequently for the future.

Vibeke..s departure from the band obviously came as a shock to you, as it did to us when she told us she intended to leave. The fact that she didn't write you a few lines before she took off might seem strange to us all, I don't want to raise any speculations about why. It was her decision to make. But I think it was the wrong one.

A couple of months ago, we had all these rumours about Vibeke and Nightwish. Where all those stories came from, we don't know, and frankly: We don't care. The cold facts are that she is not a part of Tristania, anymore, and that is what we have to relate to.

It has been very frustrating for us that we have been unable to tour with Illumination. A summer without playing festivals has been difficult. Except of a couple years where we have been busy in the studio, Tristania has done summer festivals every year since 1998. Obviously something has been missing.

The songs from Illumination suit the live format very well. They have got this special energy that makes many of the songs perfect for the stage. We experienced this during the last gigs we did last year, even though the songs were yet not released, the crowds did respond very well to them.

Now we can't wait to continue with touring. Day jobs are boring. At least mine is. I know I am not the only restless member of the band.

Despite the frustration with not being able to tour, we have used the spring and summer well in the search for the new singer that can fill the shoes of Vibeke, and also take Tristania to the next level.

We have been looking for something fresh; a voice with character and identity. An imitation of the former singer is the last thing we want, but this special someone also must be able to sing the classics. We take our past with us in the future.

We have received demos from many candidates from all over the world. Some of them were asked to send more material, and a few of them have been invited to Norway where we have been working with them in our studio.

It is with great relief we are announcing that this search is now over, and we will bring you more details around this soon.

We would like to thank each and every person that contacted us and sent material. It has been deeply appreciated.

Anders and Einar are working on new stuff, the engines are still running. I am eager to hear it.

I am doing a lot of writing these days, working on numerous projects in various areas.

Kenneth has had surgery on his knee, and hopefully he will be fit for some heavy touring soon.

Well, that is about it. We hope you are all well. We will try to update the 'news'-section on a monthly basis.

CRADLE OF FILTH GUITARIST JOINS GOREROTTED

London-based deathsters Gorerotted have announced their new guitarist with the following statement from existing guitarist Tim Weatherly: "After playing the Summer Festivals as a four-piece we are pleased to announce our new guitarist is Gian Pyres of ex-Cradle Of Filth fame.

"He is a great guitarist and I've been playing with Gian in our project The Fear for a while now so he was natural choice to step into Matt's piss soaked shoes. Gian played with Cradle from 1996 to 2002 and has also appeared on Christian Death and Extreme Noise Terror albums."

Gian himself commented, "It's fucking great to hook up with such a bunch of proper wankers, it will be ace!""

Gorerotted are currently hard at work on their fourth full-length album 'Get Dead Or Die Trying', which they hope will be out next summer. Unofficial sources claim that Dani Filth, Cradle Of Filth's vocalist, in a state of advanced drunkenness, was arrested after the Metalcamp show in Slovenia. Dani allegedly started to throw the large objects into the security guys and the audience, with the crowd making their feelings known throughout by booing him.

The set list was four songs shorter for this reason and the band retired quietly from the stage. Dani was the only one left on stage, trying to break the floodlights, in order to throw them away.

In a move that will surprise many who bought into the rumours that there is no love lost between the two, current MAYHEM vocalist Atilla has joined former MAYHEM vocalist Maniac to record vocals for a track on the debut album from Maniac’s new band SKITLIV. Commented Maniac “Contrary to what a lot of people either say or believe, Atilla and I are actually very good friends, and always find rumours about how we are supposed to resent each other quite amusing”.

The track, entitled “Amfetamin”, also has SHINING’s Niklas Kvarforth on guitar. Kvarforth, a close friend of both vocalists, recently joined SKITLIV as recording guitarist. About the track, Maniac said: “Amfetamin” started life as a pretty disturbing piece of music to begin with. Once Niklas joined in it became even more so, and now that Atilla has added his vocals, it’s taken on yet another dimension; his voice is used almost as an instrument”.

SKITLIV will be touring with Japanese all-girl band GALLHAMMER in the autumn, with dates already confirmed in Norway, Denmark, Germany and Belgium. A new raw, un-mastered version of “Amfetamin”, with Atilla’s vocals added can be heard on the official SKTILIV myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/skitliv777.
