Re: Decayed - 8º album a sair em inicio de 2010
Apesar de um pouco tarde, já, enviaram-me esta review do TBMF.
"Man, this band from Portugal has been around since time immemorial. It is a real shame I haven't heard any of their music prior to The Black Metal Flame, their seventh fucking full length album for your information, because Decayed with their brand of sizzling old school-spirited black/thrash will kick your pouty ass down before even setting foot in your bedroom. Though their music is entrenched in the sound of the ‘80s – Black Metal-era Venom, Bathory circa Under the Sign of the Black Mark and Hellhammer/old Celtic Frost – it doesn't sound dated at all. It is developed keeping in mind the aesthetic of the second wave of black metal, of Mayhem circa De Mysteriius Dom Sathanas and Darkthrone. So my dear readers, this is not a pathetic feeble attempt at cashing in on nostalgia. These are the original dudes who have outlived their peers to kick the ass of the new whiny generation.
Decayed take about three minutes to arrive but once they get there you are sure to give them a standing ovation and cheer for them. Cold old fashioned black metal blasts, sharp and clear throaty rasps spewing out cheesy but metal as fuck lyrics, groovy and rocking black'n'roll parts, Slayer-esque solos, delectable slower Celtic Frost tempos, it is all there, proud and in your face, naked and fat, but fucking proud, and you love every minute of it. The songs are lengthy, averaging about seven minutes, but they are so loud and heady that you barely take notice of it. Groovy beats, some of reminiscent of mid-period Carpathian Forest, to which you have no option but to keep tapping your feet to (paralytics are no exception; they just do it unconsciously) are preferred over the trite fast black metal parts, overuse of which renders the longer songs a tad monotonous too, but on a whole it is mixed up pretty well. I particularly love the haunting opening riff of “...Invernah... / Slaughter of the Righteous” which unexpectedly sounds similar to the ones played by old Finnish death metal bands like Amorphis. The music soon resumes its original nature but that is just as well you say, reaching out for your beer mug.
Far from sounding dated, the production is crisp and powerful, with pounding drums, turbo snowmobile guitar tone and fresh sizzling vocals sounding as if being delivered in the flesh. Just in case you don't derive enough pleasure out of this classic-sounding yet relevant album, you are provided with not one or two but six bonus tracks including a Ramones and Bathory cover. Normally, I cut points for pointless bonus tracks, but in this case I am giving them extra for good music (these old songs are more influenced by Bathory and sound more epic as a result, fucking yay!), even though you can't listen to the whole album and six bonus tracks in one sitting, the total running length of the disc being 74 minutes.
This band is like a legendary wrestler, somewhat larger than life, having oodles of attitude, charisma and integrity. The younger ones may be faster and trickier but their aura and size of their balls doesn't match Decayed's. So what if they do some familiar old-fashioned antics that make you roll your eyes? The sulky black metal kids can't match their attitude or style, let alone their swagger if they tried all their life till they promptly committed suicide. Decayed command respect and kick ass. Fuck criticism, I am paying for this."
