HELLOWEEN's MICHAEL KISKE Is Suffering From 'Acute Laryngitis'; Festival Appearances Canceled

German power metallers HELLOWEEN have canceled their appearances this weekend at the Hellsinki Metal Festival in Helsinki, Finland and the Bloodstock Open Air festival in Derbyshire, United Kingdom due to "an acute laryngitis" suffered by the band's singer Michael Kiske. Replacing HELLOWEEN at Hellsinki Metal Festival will be APOCALYPTICA, while KK'S PRIEST, the new band featuring founding JUDAS PRIEST guitarist K.K. Downing, will step in for HELLOWEEN at Bloodstock Open Air.

HELLOWEENsaid in a statement: "The heavy storms in Slovenia (our thoughts are with the flood victims) and cloudbursts in Wacken couldn’t harm us - we played all our scheduled shows and celebrated together with our loyal fans. Much more difficult for us is now to inform you that we have to cancel the upcoming festival gigs at the Hellsinki Metal Festival in Finland and Bloodstock Open Air in the UK due to an acute laryngitis our singer Michael Kiske is suffering of. We did make this decision with a lot of consideration and with heavy hearts but Michael's condition unfortunately does not leave us any other choice. Thanks for your understanding."

HELLOWEEN recently completed the "United Forces" tour of North America with support from Swedish metallers HAMMERFALL.

Kiske's first album back with HELLOWEEN, 2021's self-titled effort, landed in the Top 10 in more than 10 countries, including Germany, Spain, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland and Austria. The cover artwork for the LP was painted by artist Eliran Kantor, who has previously worked with HATEBREED, SOULFLY, TESTAMENT, ICED EARTH and SODOM, among others.

Produced by Charlie Bauerfeind and Dennis Ward, the latest HELLOWEEN LP was recorded in part at the H.O.M.E. Studios in Hamburg (where everything started in 1984). The same recording console used for such HELLOWEEN albums as "Master Of The Rings", "Time Of The Oath" and "Better Than Raw" was utilized to record the band's new material. The effort was mixed at the Valhalla Studios of Ronald Prent (IRON MAIDEN, DEF LEPPARD, RAMMSTEIN).

"Helloween" saw the legendary German power metallers going "back to the roots," with the band recording fully analogue and Daniel Löble playing the drum kit previously used by HELLOWEEN's original drummer, the late Ingo Schwichtenberg, on the legendary "Keeper Of The Seven Keys" recordings.

The "Pumpkins United" tour marked the first time Kiske had played live with HELLOWEEN since 1993. Guitarist/vocalist Kai Hansen, who departed HELLOWEEN in 1988, had been joining the band onstage on various tours and festival appearances throughout the years. The set featured several duets with Kiske and his replacement, Andi Deris, along with many rarely played songs, including "Kids Of The Century", "Rise And Fall" and "Livin' Ain't No Crime". Hansen — who fronted HELLOWEEN until late 1986 — sang a medley of several early HELLOWEEN classics, including "Ride The Sky", "Judas", "Starlight" and "Heavy Metal (Is The Law)".

Jon Schaffer tem data de sentença por invasão ao Capitólio definida

Guitarrista do Iced Earth participou de ato da extrema direita em 2021

Jon Schaffer, guitarrista da banda Iced Earth, finalmente recebeu a data para a audiência de sua sentença pelo envolvimento na invasão ao Capitólio dos Estados Unidos, ocorrida em 6 de janeiro de 2021.

Segundo o site Loudwire, as definições sobre o desenrolar do caso aconteceram na última sexta-feira, 11, no qual o juiz responsável pelo Tribunal Distrital dos EUA, Amit Priyavadan Mehta, emitiu uma nova ordem que determina os procedimentos legais a serem realizados.

Conforme a determinação do tribunal, Jon Schaffer foi encaminhado ao Escritório de Liberdade Condicional dos EUA a fim de elaborar um relatório de investigação presente que deve ser entregue até o dia 6 de fevereiro de 2024. Além disso, os Memorandos de Sentença das Partes devem ser apresentados até o dia 13 de fevereiro de 2024, enquanto as eventuais respostas têm prazo para serem submetidas até o dia 16 de fevereiro de 2024.

“A sentença para Jon Ryan Schaffer está marcada para 20 de fevereiro de 2024, às 14:00 horas, na Sala de Audiências 10, perante o Juiz Amit P. Mehta”, finaliza a decisão do juiz encarregado do processo.

Schaffer foi identificado através de fotos como um dos mais de 400 indivíduos acusados pela invasão do Capitólio, em ato organizado pela extrema direita, após o comício “Stop The Steal”, evento organizado pela extrema direita em apoio ao ex-presidente Donald Trump, após o comício no qual o ex-presidente acusava as eleições de fraude.

O guitarrista do Iced Earth evitou de maneira contínua as autoridades, dificultando a sua localização. A Justiça dos EUA menciona que os oficiais encarregados da intimação realizaram mais de vinte e quatro tentativas em sete endereços distintos em três estados. O músico entregou-se aproximadamente duas semanas após o incidente ao FBI em Indianápolis.

Em abril de 2021, Schaffer admitiu sua culpa em uma informação criminal que o acusava de obstrução de um processo oficial e de entrar e permanecer em um prédio restrito com uma arma mortal e perigosa. Se condenado, essas acusações podem resultar em uma pena de até 30 anos de prisão.

É importante reiterar que Jon Schaffer foi descrito como membro fundador e vitalício dos Oath Keepers, um grupo extremista que conspirou para aterrorizar o Distrito dos EUA.

PRIMAL FEAR Takes On 'Cancel Culture' With New Single

German metal commandos PRIMAL FEAR will release their new album, "Code Red", on September 1 through Atomic Fire. The 11-track follow-up to 2020's "Metal Commando" includes the latest single, "Cancel Culture", the official lyric video for which — created by Ingo Spörl of Hard Media — can be seen below. The track is themed around a topic that has been heavily discussed in recent years.



Producer/bassist Mat Sinner comments: "There are countries where you just disappear if you speak your mind. These are intolerable conditions. But I'm not backing down. I've always been a rebel; I don't want to conform. And I don't have to play in certain countries either. It's that simple."

Adds frontman Ralf Scheepers: "The way the culture of having discussions with each other has gone down the drain has become unbearable. People tend to have no more respect for each other and that's a dangerous development and perspective. It's the same sad development with all these 'keyboard warriors' out there who hide behind a made up user name to release their hate, jealousy, or frustration. I will never take this as a 'welcome to the Internet' invitation; it's simply a no go!"

"Code Red" will be available as a digipak CD, 2xLP in multiple color variants, and digitally.

Recorded in Germany at Sebastian "Basi" Roeder's Backyard Studios, with the helping hands of Scheepers as well as Mitch Kunz, "Code Red" was produced by bassist Mat Sinner and co-produced by Scheepers and guitarist Tom Naumann. Longtime PRIMAL FEAR collaborator Jacob Hansen once again took care of mixing and mastering at his own Hansen Studios in Denmark. Additionally, Stan W. Decker, who created previous works for the band, including 2017's "Angels Of Mercy - Live In Germany", 2018's "Apocalypse" and 2021's "I Will Be Gone", provided the record’s magnificent artwork.

Back in August 2021, PRIMAL FEAR announced that it was scrapping all of its previously announced dates for 2021 and 2022 "due to a serious illness issue." Four months after canceling the concerts, Sinner revealed that he had spent the previous eight months in eight different hospitals.

In April 2021, PRIMAL FEAR released a five-track single called "I Will Be Gone". Also made available was the official music video for the title track, featuring a guest appearance by former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen.

PRIMAL FEAR's 13th studio album, "Metal Commando", was released in July 2020 via Nuclear Blast. The LP was produced by Sinner and mixed by Jacob Hansen.

Formed by Sinner in 1997 as an outlet for vocalist Ralf Scheepers (who had left GAMMA RAY and was a rumored candidate for the then-open JUDAS PRIEST vocal spot, but was considering early retirement from metal),PRIMAL FEAR has emerged as one of the most consistent European metal bands, rarely straying from its core PRIEST-styled power metal sound.

For more than a decade, Sinner had been the musical director and co-producer for the prestigious European arena tour "Rock Meets Classic".

METAL CHURCH's KURDT VANDERHOOF Says He 'Hates' Black Metal: 'It's Garbage To Me'

In a new interview with Ruben Mosqueda of We Go To 11, METAL CHURCH guitarist and founding member Kurdt Vanderhoof spoke about his disdain for a lot of the newer extreme metal bands, particularly groups of the "darker metal" variety. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "I hate it. I hate that black metal, Satanic, screamo stuff. It's garbage to me… I don't like black metal. I don't like any of that kind of stuff. I like the stuff that I initially liked. The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal stuff — I love that stuff. I don't listen to the new Satanic stuff at all."

When Mosqueda brought up British black metal pioneers VENOM as a band that had Satanic lyrics but that was "almost cartoony" in its delivery, Kurdt said: "They were awful. But they were funny. They made you laugh. You listen to the lyrics and you're, like, 'Yeah, right.' … It's not my bag — never has been."

METAL CHURCH made its live debut with the band's new vocalist Marc Lopes (ROSS THE BOSS, LET US PREY) on June 3 at the Legions Of Metal festival at Reggies in Chicago, Illinois.

Lopes joined METAL CHURCH in the summer of 2022 as the replacement for Mike Howe, who tragically passed away in July of 2021. The band's current lineup is rounded out by guitarist Rick Van Zandt, bassist Steve Unger and drummer Stet Howland.

Lopes's first studio album with METAL CHURCH, "Congregation Of Annihilation", came out on May 26 via Rat Pak Records (America) and Reaper Entertainment (Europe). The LP was produced by Vanderhoof.

Howe was found dead at his home in Eureka, California in July 2021. According to TMZ, Howe's official cause of death was determined to be asphyxia due to hanging. A spokesperson for the Humboldt County Sheriff's Dept. told the site authorities are calling it a suicide. He was only 55 years old.

According to police, drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the death and no controlled substances or paraphernalia were located at the scene.

Howe, who fronted METAL CHURCH from 1988 until 1994, officially rejoined the band in April 2015.

Howe is not the first singer of METAL CHURCH to die. David Wayne passed away in May 2005 from complications following a car crash. He was 47 years old.

Wayne sang on METAL CHURCH's first two classic offerings (1984's "Metal Church" and 1986's "The Dark") before leaving the group and being replaced by Howe.
