Gus Chambers (Grip Inc) morreu
To all the friends of Gus and Us
On behalf of Wippet, Sam and myself, we are absolutely devastated about what has happened and want to thank everyone that called us yesterday. Our phone's didn't stop all day. It meant a lot to us. We know everyone is as shocked as we are.
I am totally heartbroken. I've lost my best friend. I can't believe that bite time isn't going to blare out of my phone anymore which was set up for only his phone calls so I would know it was Gus calling. My emotions are swimming round and round in my head, trying to comprehend it all, so I will not say too much on here except to say to everyone that has asked why, as I do myself, that we were always, as normal, constantly in contact with him (myself virtually daily) yet none of us saw this coming. Nor many other friends that also constantly kept in touch with him either. We are at a loss about why. My usual daily phone calls with Gus all the days leading up to this, didn't give any clue whatsoever that anything was THIS wrong. He had a very busy day Saturday up until about 7.30pm with many friends including Wippet in the pub sorting out the artwork designs for our album with a friend and taking the stage lights we have to be repaired ready for our next gig. No one was worried about him when he left but that was the last time anyone saw him.
The last few months though, after recording our album, had been very testing at times with everything we tried to do. Many delays, no replies, knock backs, disappointments, let downs, the usual things all bands seem to have to endure to try to get up that mountain but can, some days as we talked about together (a few more times than normal it seems recently thinking about it,) it feels like it gets harder and harder to keep going and keep your chin up when it means so much to you. (it would have made it even harder for him too because he's been very high up that mountain in the past. We both always finished up by saying that we were determined to keep going and that it was absolutely, all worth it and we loved how our album had turned out)
We were talking about the next plan of action all last week after some advice given to him by someone he knew in the music industry in Germany that he called early last week. I thought it was a great idea and so did he. They said they were going to help us with it all too and our track 'jesus slaves' was going onto a german magazine's included showcase cd next month to start with which he was chuffed about. Me too! We never spoke of giving up by any means. In fact we'd started working on new songs for the next album! I'd sorted an extra rehearsal Monday to get one more rehearsed for the gig Friday. When he didn't show, which was not like him, as time went by, we all kept looking at the clock, Sam knocked it off the wall at one point! and we started to get worried. I'd been ringing him all day but first I thought he was still in bed! and later thought his phone must be broken. I was gonna tell him I'd recorded another demo song which I'd worked on all day Sunday that we could easily do aswell at our gig Friday. I can't stop thinking..if only I'd known. That was said to me many times last night aswell. It all seems now like a nightmare and I will wake up and it's not true. But it is
I will miss him so much.
Thank you to everyone who came to be with us last night at the Beer Engine. It helped a lot.
We will all be there Friday too so please come down still. We won't be playing obviously now but will definately do something very soon as a tribute to Gus. I will let you know when we sort it out.
I will leave you with a little home video I put together from video clips from backbeat taken by Helen while we were rehearsing and then a gig filmed by Joe Kerrigan on May 9th this year at the Tuns. What Gus did at the beginning, while we were rehearsing was very typical of him!!!! I thought he would ask me to change that bit but he loved the clip being on there. He made us laugh a lot. I was so proud to be on stage with Gus and Sam and Wippet......

Re: Gus Chambers (Grip Inc) morreu
Banda extremamente underrated.

I go by many names. Some call me Shatoon, bringer of corn. Others call me Mickey Nine, the dream weaver. I'm sometimes called Captain Maj,by the Dutch. Others call me Secret Peter, where is he hiding? In a shoe? In a bush? In a rock? No,he is inside yourself
