SEKTOR 304
"Subliminal Actions"

OUT 28th DECEMBER on Malignant Records - TumorCD53

"The follow-up to the highly acclaimed Soul Cleansing CD finds Portugal’s Sektor 304 expanding on all aspects of their debut, once again channeling the essence of the old school guardians (Test Dept, SPK, Crash Worship), while simultaneously exploring new, uncharted territory.

Comparatively speaking, Subliminal Actions is a more complete and focused album, with an even better flow than Soul Cleansing and more attention paid to detail, unleashing a cacophonic whirlwind of buzz saw grind, loops, power tools, and scraping, junk metal debris, clashing head on with exertive tribal percussion, clanging oil barrel rhythms, and industrial clamor resonating over a sprawling, post-apocalyptic wasteland. Some tracks, such as the opener, “A Carving on Metallic Flesh”, heap on the scorching noise, while others, such as the resounding, rhythmic driven “By The Throat”, “A Vessel of Guilt” or “Vultures” are delivered with factory-line precision, laced with grimy layers of bass-heavy dirge, bleak, reverbed squall, and distortion filled, atmospheric drone. Among the many highlights, is the albums closer, “A Prismatic Sun”, a 10 + minute epic excursion into a nightmarish world, populated by whispered vocals and uneasy drift that slowly rises and grows in intensity, climaxing into a blissfully dark and sweaty orgy of low slung bass, ominous, ceremonial drumming, and suffocating darkness.

Subliminal Actions not only compliments Soul Cleansing, but takes the Sektor 304 sound to new heights, delivering yet striking record sure to solidify their standing as one of premier, truly industrial acts in operation today."

Algumas críticas ao disco:

ZERO TOLERANCE:
"(...) This is an insane journey of future-primitive dystopian terror which far outstrips the debut in terms of dept and colour; there is litteraly hundreds of hours listening here. Impeccable."
5.5 / 6

SPUTNIK MUSIC: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/48246/Sektor-304-Subliminal-Actions/

"(...)The word "tribal" is frequently used in describing Sektor 304, from their polyrhythmic drumming style, to some of the background voices, to the general themes of the project. Sektor 304's songs do not convey individual personas so much as they cast the vocalist in the role of a narrator or mythic archetype, dealing with age-old trials and horrors- human sacrifice or martyrdom, control by force, the existential abyss, and so on. "Vultures" gazes at the natural ecological cycle of death with a pounding beat and a chorus of simian grunts, accomplishing the rare feat of industrial music that the average caveman could relate to. Indeed, while Sektor 304's interest in the timbre of modern industrial materials and machinery allows us to label them an industrial band, the impression they create is not of cyberdelic transhumanism but rather a linkage between modern technology and man as a perennially primitive tool-using animal. Or, as one of the songs suggests: "We've come full circle." Subliminal Actions is a recommended album for a diverse crowd of dark music enthusiasts craving something different, likely to appeal not just to the industrial heads but probably some fans of dark ambient and avant-garde metal as well."

THE ONE TRUE DEAD ANGEL: http://theonetruedeadangel.blogspot.com/2012/01/new-year-new-sounds.html

The simplistic buzz on this seething industrial band is that they're Portugal's answer to Godflesh, but there's way more to them than that -- their infernal machine noise incorporates elements reminiscent of early Einstuerzende Neubauten, Treponem Pal, MZ.412, Dissecting Table, SPK, and maybe even Whitehouse. Working with traditional electric instruments as well as junk metal, power tools, and amplified objects, they open with a pounding, corrosive blast of noise on "A Carving On Metal Skin" and turn up the angst factor with booming, pounding tribal percussion and a kitchen-sink sound on "A Vessel of Guilt," which reminds me a lot of the first album by the tragically underrated Treponem Pal (whose early sound was essentially Swans with a more restless rhythm section and an angrier singer). Even on slower tracks like "Full Circle," their command of ugly noises (in this case, whining feedback) and slave-galley machine rhythms creates a genuinely oppressive vibe. Even better, the tracks frequently start off heavy and sinister and somehow grow even darker and more soul-crushing over time, no mean feat. The best part of their rhythmic assault is the extensive use of polyrhythms, which adds yet another layer of complexity to their dank, ominous sound. Then there are tracks like "Friction," which is closer to dark ambient, far more muted yet propelled by wavelike rhythms and irregular clanking noises -- the sound of bodies floating down a dark river in some underground dungeon, perhaps. The lengthy "Terminal Stage" is even closer to true dark ambient, a throwback to the isolationist movement even, and "Concrete Islands" deals out the same kind of heavy evil that makes MZ.412 albums sound so terrifying. The album ends with "The Prismatic Sun," a long and methodical descent into hell that only reinforces how focused their primitive atavism has become since their last album. Scary, scary stuff, and highly recommended.

HEATHEN HARVEST : http://heathenharvest.org/2012/02/02/sektor-304-subliminal-actions/

(...)Sektor 304 have truly discovered the means to access the untouched bastion of safety in our souls. It isn’t a simplified marauding of fear tactics; no. What the Portuguese industrial terror-fiends manage to do is revert to a primal place that is hidden within and tap into the seat of instinct itself. Fight or flight reactions become obsolete in the midst of their most visceral and recent offering Subliminal Actions, and again the most jaded among us can be reminded what audio terror sounds like.(...)
5/5
