Recomendo o album Mieli Maassa:

REVIEWS:
1ª:
Living, (fire-)breathing proof that black metal can be influenced by Finnish folk without descending into the realms of silliness and trolls, Häive here release a full-length debut, “Mieli Maassa”, following a number of demos which have proven this one-man act, comprising of multi-instrumentalist Varjosielu, to be both interesting and worthy.
“Mieli Maassa” continues much in the same vein as previous outings, and the production is kept at the suitably grim level noted by Dave on Häive’s last release, a split with fellow countrymen Wyrd and Kehrä. Again, this is the most suitable and pleasing approach- the muddy roughness of the sound’s edges really emphasises the stunning mixture of layers that characterise this album. One such layer is a dedication to an old-school sound, icy and simplistic; some of the riff structures reminded me of Ophthalmia. However, a more modern dirty groove also makes its mark, especially in the repeated main theme of stand-out track “V Raina: Takaisin Koskemattomaan Metsään”, and a soaring, warm lead sound and a restrained but persistent acoustic influence add yet more flavours. Varied yet ominously abyssal drumming counterbalances the softer aspects to keep “Mieli Maassa” grim and nasty.
The folk elements of this complexity are gentle and unobtrusive; even though I loathe mouth-harps I enjoyed the prominence of this instrument on “IV Raina: Yömyrsky”, where it made a genuine contribution to the song’s atmosphere and composition. Likewise the kantele, which Varjosielu plays very skilfully and inventively, adds rather than distracts from the album’s opening moments onwards. “Mieli Maassa” definitely walks amongst the darker shadows of pagan-folk; the ultra-harsh old-school black metal vocals are a reminder of this, only slipping into manly cleanness once, on “IV Raina: Yömyrsky”, and then providing pleasant variation rather than a softening.
In all, you could do far worse than to check this out if black metal is your thing; it’s inventive and attention-grabbing, and feels genuine and untouched by fad. While certain layers are reassuringly familiar, the overall mixture is unique and interesting. An impressively powerful debut.
2ª
After Häive received considerable praise for their earlier efforts, especially the reissue of the 3rd demo on the split cd together with their compatriots Wyrd and Kehrä, it is now time to show the full potential of this fantastic Finnish band. Deeply rooted in the nature and traditions of his native homeland, mastermind Varjosielu created a wonderful fusion of wistful and melancholic Folk with Finnish Black Metal, combining the classic Metal weaponry with folk instruments such as a self-made 10-string Kantele or mouth-harp. The result is a perfect symbiosis of aforementioned styles which might appeal to fans of other Finnish acts such as October Falls or Tenhi but can hardly be compared to any band in particular.
3ª
The first time I heard Häive, it was on a split CD with country mates Wyrd and Kehrä. That was just an appetizer, creating the need to listen to some more.Well, the full length has now landed home!
Finnish composer/musician Varjosielu handles, once again, all the lyrics and music as well as the visual arts included in the booklet. One more very talented and real artist from the amazing European underground scene. Although "Mieli Maassa" is Häive's debut release, three demos were made since the band started in late 2002. I liked the acoustic/folksy tones that could be heard on the split CD, so I was expecting perhaps a bit more of it this time around. The cover art kind of pointed that way too. Well, this album is heavier than I would have thought, even slightly in the crushing/doom direction. This doesn't mean no heathenly/folksy parts were included though. Actually, some stringed instrument called kantele (self-made 10 strings) opens the album and can be heard on a couple of occasions. It is with great hearing pleasures that acoustic guitars grace some of my favorite numbers: "Raina: Yömyrsky" (along with mouth harp) and the closing track "Raina: Kurjat Kurjet" (long lasting acoustic intro here). During the heavier parts, epic leads and clean vocals are present, echoing the more heathen style of this new Finnish act.
Häive is a cool Scandinavian band to discover, with brand new music from the woods.
4ª
Scandinavian metal is a source of much splendor. It has been in the past and continues to be to this very day despite the fact that other areas in the world, such as mainland Europe and North America, are hot on their heels in pursuit of the crown to the throne. The historical background of Scandinavian metal is enough to draw most fans in given it’s illustrious history, littered with tales of misdemeanours and ungodly acts. Scandinavia has been a hot bed for metal since the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. Given how strong the scene is when spanning across the nations that Scandinavia is home to, bands, specifically of the black metal variation, have to possess a number of varied special qualities in order to attract fans. Häive, a Finnish hybrid band consisting of one primary member, Varjosielu, who controls everything, is one of those bands. Incorporating a folk theme into the music is pivotal to the success of Haive and this debut outing, ‘Mieli Maassa’. Signed to Northern Silence Records, who are home to bands like Angmar, Belenos and Nae’Blis, there was much promise to answer to.
From the introductory song, one knows that they are in for a rollercoaster ride consisting of several extraordinary surprises along the way. Häive, as aforementioned, are a hybrid act, blending both black and folk genres into one. This is done by several varied means, from the use of enchanting clean vocals which are used sparsely and conjure up images of Scandinavian folklore and the beauty of nature, to the sublime inclusion of instruments like the Kantele, or Kannel as it is sometimes known. The Kantele is a Finnish traditional plucked string instrument and is described as having, “A distinctive bell-like sound.” As well as this, the instrument is also described as having, “A diatonic tuning though small kantele with between 5 and 15 strings are often tuned to a gapped mode missing a seventh and with the lowest pitched strings tuned to a fourth below the tonic as a drone.” This is an instrument that begins to play an integral part on the soundscapes, which don’t suffer at all from it’s use. The instrument allows Häive to become more expressive in terms of the emotional content, particularly in the final song.
On top of this, Häive also include a mouth harp, or harmonica into the mix. The inclusion of such instruments into the black metal fray instantly makes this an interesting and intriguing band. The traditional black metal elements aren’t always far from the fray, either. The rasping vocals and the often aggressive double bass on percussion allows the audience to view a different side to Häive, showing that this band are by no means a one trick pony. The musical influences on ’Mieli Maassa’ are hard to detect as the music is varied in content, but one instantly thinks back to bands like Drudkh, who implement soaring guitar solos like Häive do, and Nokturnal Mortum, but with distinctive differences here and there. One of the main interesting points about ‘Mieli Maassa’ is the fact that the atmosphere, which includes the conjured images and surroundings of the instrumentation, is dominated by folk influences whereas the soundscapes are largely influenced by the black metal genre.
Songs like ‘Takaisin Koskemattomaan Metsään’, which has a distinctive spring like sound, sets Häive up as an inspiring act, atmospherically. The differentiating techniques used by the Finnish act, particularly in instrumentation, don’t allow the songs to mesh into one unappealing mess. Instead, elements like the clean vocals, the use of traditional instruments and the varied soundscapes, which are seemingly influenced by varying emotive contexts, give Häive a fresh feel throughout. The production is perfect also. Every instrument, from the monotonous bass to the acoustics, which add an extra sense of beauty and inspiration, are clear and concise in there individualistic approach. The guitar is a notable instrument which is offered in the way of expression by the production because of it’s clear sound.
The most appealing methods that Häive include on this piece are, of course, the folk inspired elements. Although they are used sparsely, when they are included, they steal the show. The beauty of the acoustics which are used to great emotive effect on songs like ‘Kurjat Kurjet‘, tied together with the clean vocals and, of course, the traditional elements of Häive, the positives by sure outweigh the negatives. However, in terms of soundscapes, one does feel that had Haive used the folk elements more often than not, the record would have had more praise heaped on it. As it is, the sparse nature of the acoustics, clean vocals and Kantele can leave the listener disappointed on occasions. Having said that, one must view songs like the sorrowful ‘Kurjat Kurjet’, which was previously mentioned as being highly emotive, are a joy to hear in the saddest sense of the word. Songs like this, which are incredibly powerful and evocative, are highly recommended.
