Dark Funeral: announce release date for new album "Where Shadows Forever Reign" & reveal album cover!



Six years after the release of their latest album, the Swedish masters of black metal, DARK FUNERAL, will finally release their new album on June 3rd, 2016 via Century Media Records! It will be entitled "Where Shadows Forever Reign".

Lord Ahriman comments: "Wow, did 6 years pass already? Time surely flies fast! But you know what, we're back! DARK FUNERAL is back! And in true DARK FUNERAL spirit, like so many times in the past, we continue to push all boundaries musically & bring Black Metal into a new, fresh & dark dimension. This is by far our most professional, technical, dynamic & epic album thus far. And compared to previous albums, each new song offers a unique spirit & identity that is more profound than ever. And whether you like extreme Black Metal or not, I'm sure every fan of Metal will find songs on this album that they can enjoy to its fullest!

Every piece of the new album is combined into total perfection. The music, lyrics, musicianship, artwork & production. The artwork was made by Necrolord and the album was recorded at Dugout Studios with producer Daniel Bergstrand and studio engineer George Nerantzis. And I couldn't be more satisfied with each and everyones contribution.

Anyway, it feels absolutely fantastic to be back with new music. And I can't wait to let you all enjoy our latest Satanic Symphony 'Where Shadows Forever Reign'. See you all soon somewhere on the road!"

Voltaram a usar a mestria do Necrolord tal como no 1º albúm, e ainda bem as outras capas eram um bocado foleironas, e com o Necrolord já se sabe é qualidade garantida.

Tirando a do The Secret of the Black Arts (com 20 anos!!!), os gajos nunca foram muito felizes nas capas. Mas já a capa do último single tinha ficado porreira.

A special first look at the artwork concepts behind the upcoming new album from Schammasch. Here's the main cover image for the 'Triangle' 3CD / 3LP masterwork, set for release on April 29th.



Watch out for a first preview of music from this magnum opus debuting next Monday, along with exclusive pre-orders....

C.S.R from Schammasch commented upon the development of the concepts and also about working with acclaimed photographer Ester Segarra (Watain / Behemoth / Electric Wizard) :

"I was thinking about a proper artwork concept for months, before finally deciding which way to go. I remember there where many vague ideas already, back when I was doing vocal recordings in Bavaria, but nothing concrete or striking. The only thing that was clear was, that this album would require something timeless and classy, something that wouldn’t be bound to a certain genre or style.

I’ve looked through countless classic paintings and checked out a lot of artists to find inspirations, and finally did, when I saw some of the sculptures of Richard MacDonald, a US sculptor artist. They just hit the mark, so I started to work out some ideas around them, and finally came up with a draft for the front artwork, which I thought was pure magic. I’ve showed it to my band and it was clear in no time, that we had found what was needed. But since we didn’t get permission to use the sculptures’ photographs, we had to think about recreating them with an actual model, which seemed quite challenging. By that time I got in touch with Ester Segarra from London, for doing the band’s photographs, so I’ve explained the concept to her, to see if something like that would even be possible with the budget we could offer.

Fortunately she was very interested in the idea and immediately started to work out plans for realising the concept. When she came up with the first model options, we decided for Sasha Krohn, a circus artist and aerial performer also based in London, which turned out to be a very good choice. Finally we did the shootings in November ’15, in London, and it was a complete success.

It was also clear to have our long-time artist and friend Valnoir / Metastazis on board, for the final layout. He came up with a simplified concept of my original drafts, which added even more of a unique character to the concept. And in the end I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of this project. It was an immense challenge to realise it, but this album deserved nothing less.

So here it is, the first and major part of a truly timeless work of art. Like it or not." - C.S.R - Schammasch

Vamos a ver se é desta que Cor Scorpii lançam o sucessor do Monument que é, para mim, o melhor álbum pós-Windir.

Quanto a Mistur, que também gosto bastante, altas expetativas para o novo álbum.

Apesar de também gostar de Vreid, acho que as teclas em cor scorpii fazem muita diferença no ambiente geral, assim como o tipo de riffs de guitarra... mas são sonoridades relativamente diferentes, só comparáveis porque ambas têm ex-elementos de windir...


ps. o caricato nisto é o guitarrista que fez o monument (ex-windir) estar desde o "V" em vreid (perdi o rasto da banda, nem sei como tem andado) e o de cor scorpii ser outro...

Vreid, que foi a banda que nasceu dos Windir (só faltava mesmo o Valfar), nunca quis seguir pelo mesmo caminho musical dos Windir, já que consideravam que sem o Valfar não faria o menor sentido. Assim, têm um estilo diferente de Windir (embora, aqui e ali, haja algumas passagens que fazem lembrar um pouco).

Já Cor Scorpii e Mistur, seguiram claramente pelas pisadas de Windir e, em ambos os casos, com excelentes resultados. Pena que sejam muito pouco ativos. Esperemos para ver como vão sair esses álbuns.
