Swedish progressive metallers OPETH made their live debut with keyboardist Joakim Svalberg (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, GLENN HUGHES) at the 10th annual Bonnaroo Music And Arts Festival on June 10, 2011 on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, 60 miles south of Nashville.

When asked by the Artisan News Service how playing Bonnaroo was different to performing at European festivals, OPETH vocalist/guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt said, "It's very similar to European festivals. It's strange that there's not more festivals in the United States like this, as far as I'm concerned. But yeah, it was lovely. Good hospitality."

Enfim, parece q acabou uma era... treta de capa... expectativas muito baixas para a musica do novo cd... enfim...

Só porque a capa é diferente ou porque foi confirmado que o álbum não iria conter death growls?

Quanto a mim, cá espero pelo álbum, pois venha o que vier, e mesmo que seja diferente do som tradicional dos Opeth, deverá ser certamente um bom trabalho, porque o Mikael Åkerfeldt é, acima de tudo, um músico bastante competente e profissional.
E sim, acho bem que as bandas queiram alterar ou experimentar novas sonoridades, não tenho quaisquer complexos com isso, e sendo os músicos que são, duvido que tenhamos aqui um "St. Anger" ou um "Unspoken King" dos Opeth... nunca se sabe, mas é preferível esperar do que falar antes de tempo...

pela capa é naquela... mas epah podiam ter feito uma coisa mais, como dizer, sofisticada... tipo... era preciso por tantos cliches como aqueles?!?! é q sinceramente ja vi n capas assim alikes no mundo do metal...
Mas la está, uma capa n faz o som do cd...

Agora o q mais me está a desiludir é a viragem totalmente comercial q os Opeth parecem estar a ter... Eu sei q eles n sabem fazer musicas más... até poderá ser um grande cd tipo Damnation... mas fico desiludido pq foi com os Opeth de BWP MAYH SL etc q me maravilhei com eles, com este tipo de sonoridades, etc... quase decerteza q se n houver DG é um passo provavel a n inclusão quase definitiva em futuros cds... tantas bandas q conheço q lhes aconteceu o mesmo...
A ver vamos... mas aqui é mesmo low expectations... se for grande cd melhor se n for, olha azar... mais uma banda normal de metal...

Percebo o que queres dizer, verdade seja dita que desde os últimos dois álbuns deles (Nunca cheguei a ouvir o Deliverance com deve ser e o Damnation é algo mais à parte) perderam parte da "mística" que eles tinham, pelo menos para mim. Continuaram a lançar bons álbuns, mas aquela atmosfera criada por eles perdeu-se completamente, sendo substituida por vezes por momentos de puro showcase técnico, típico de bandas prog, que é algo que me aborrece um bocado.

Agora o q mais me está a desiludir é a viragem totalmente comercial q os Opeth parecem estar a ter...

Eiii, calma lá, só por não ter Growls (e eu só acredito que não vai ter depois de ouvir) quer dizer que vai ser comercial?
Vê por exemplo Anathema e Katatonia, a partir de certeza altura deixaram de ter growls, mas não foi por isso que deixaram de ter qualidade! Pelo contrário, na minha opinião até ganharam!
Mas de certa forma entendo o que queres dizer, mas acho que estás a julgá-los precipitadamente. Eu também preferia que o álbum tivesse Growls, mas se não tiver... porque não há de ser excelente na mesma? E sendo Opeth a banda que é, que nunca desapontou até agora, acredito que ainda não seja desta que o façam.

Simplesmente podem querer experimentar uma sonoridade diferente neste álbum.
Se calhar na altura do Damnation muita gente pensou isso, e dois anos depois lançaram aquela bomba chamada Ghost Reveries.

Confesso que quando soube que, eventualmente, o novo álbum não ia ter growls também fiquei um bocado com as expectativas em baixo, mas depois penso que a banda em questão são os Opeth, e se nunca me desiludiram até agora, porque haveria de achar que me iam desiludir desta vez? É esperar para ouvir e pronto.
E mesmo que o álbum seja mau... epa, é um álbum mais fraco. Todas as bandas os têm. Opeth até agora ainda não fez nenhum álbum fraco, se fizer, paciência. Não é por fazerem um álbum mau que mancham a sua discografia, e se tornam numa banda "normal" como dizes.

Acho que muita gente tem os Opeth num pedestal, e nada contra, porque são dignos disso. Compreendo também que esta viragem de rumo seja perturbadora para alguns fãs mas não estou a ver um Opeth comercial neste lançamento, tal como não vi no Damnation. Os Opeth tem uma discografia ímpar até agora e se tiverem um ponto menos bom agora não penso que seja necessário estigmatizar a banda por isso, até porque Akerfeldt e companhia sempre nos trouxeram trabalhos memoráveis. Eu confio no trabalho do Akerfeldt e penso que vão trazer-nos outro trabalho com qualidade.
Tal como Anathema e Katatonia sobreviveram e muito bem sem os DG, Opeth, se for o caso, também o conseguirá. Isto para mim é apenas o começo de algo novo, confesso que quanto mais burburinho ouço acerca disto mais me aguça a curiosidade xD Preocupa te só quando Opeth meter techno beats nos álbuns!

Acho que anda tudo a fazer tempestades em copos de água, parece que tem uma necessidade grande de encontrar um novo "Illud Divinum Insanus", antes de andarem a tirar conclusões sem ouvirem sequer um excerto de música. Acho muita piada ao facto de alguem dizer que vão tomar uma faceta comercial, só por não usarem growls, já os tou a imaginar no TRL de MTV com as pitas todas aos gritos. O próximo cd até poder ser a maior porcaria, mas antes de dizerem baboseiras sem nexo, esperem primeiro para ouvir o album, mas se pelo contrário quiserem continuar, sempre me fazem rir, e rir faz bem à saude

De facto, também acho engraçado ler/ouvir pessoal a dizer que agora os Opeth vai tornar-se numa banda comercial só porque este "Heritage" não vai ter Death Growls. Sinceramente, acho que há hipóteses de este novo trabalho ser ainda menos comercial do que vários discos lançados pelos Opeth...

To ease the pain of having to wait over three full months (!) to hear the new album from Swedish progressive metallers OPETH called Heritage (due out on September 20th via Roadrunner Records), BraveWords.com caught up with leader/prog-metal visionary Mikael Åkerfeldt this week for a quick overview of the band's next magnum opus!


"We recorded 12 songs, where ten are on the album," says the frontman. "Two songs are being saved for the special edition. So there's ten songs and Per (Wiberg; former keyboardist) is still on the album even though he isn't in the band anymore. He's playing keyboards on the entire album. I'm plating keyboards too. We also have new keyboardist Joakim Svalberg (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, GLENN HUGHES) who is going to tour with us. He's not a member yet. We just did the first show with him (at the Bonnaroo Music And Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee) a few days ago. He's also on the album playing the opening number ('Heritage').

The songs are all over the place. I'd like to think that all of the songs have their own identity so to speak. One song is a little tribute to RONNIE JAMES DIO (called 'Slither') and it's a kind of gimmicky sounding song, tongue-in-cheek. The working title of that song was called 'Kill The Queen'. It's done as a tribute to him because we love him so much. The other songs move from folk music to prog-rock to jazz, crossed with PINK FLOYD and fusion like HERBIE HANCOCK or WEATHER REPORT. We actually have the (former) drummer/percussion player from Weather Report on the album - Alex Acuña (ELVIS PRESLEY, PETER GABRIEL, CARLOS SANTANA). We also have a Swedish fusion flutist who is playing a flute solo to a doomy riff.

It's all over the place and a fun listen. It's really challenging and I don't think it's boring. It's very complex with a beautiful mix and a beautiful master. It was mixed by Steven Wilson (PORCUPINE TREE) and myself and mastered by a guy by the name of Peter MEW at Abbey Road Studios in London who has engineered many, many obscure records that I've collected over the years. It was recorded at an old, vintage studio in Stockholm called Atlantis studios, which used to be a record label called Metronome. It's where ABBA did all their albums pretty much. So back to these songs, I don't know how to explain what they sound like. They are all over the place. And one song is not representative of the whole album."

Queria dizer que vai ser um album que vai dividir fãs, não estava a dizer que iam tomar o mesmo rumo musical que os mastodon. Se ebm que tb me parece que vao acalmar mt o som.
