Formados em 1991 em Uusikaupunki. Gravaram uma demo e um split EP antes de se separarem. Também não há muita informação disponível. Não devem ser confundidos com a outra banda que tinha o mesmo nome (também finlandesa),que em 1992 mudou de nome para Thromdarr.

Formaram-se em 1988. Separaram-se em 1992, juntaram-se novamente em 1995 para gravarem mais uma demo como "passatempo" e separaram-se de novo. Em 2006,reunem-se outra vez, e ainda hoje existem.
Este ano, a Xtreem Music reeditou tudo o que eles gravaram na compilação "Drifting In The Crypt".

After the 2011 re-issue through Xtreem Music of 1992 debut album "Member of Immortal Damnation," Finnish death metallers Purtenance decided to reform. The band is more motivated than ever and has already inked a deal with Xtreem Music for the release of a new mini CD as well as upcoming albums, the first of which is expected for 2013.

The new mini CD is already recorded and entitled "Sacrifice the King," featuring 6 songs in the style Purtenance is well known for. The current line-up consists of original members Juha Ranniko (guitars) and Harri Salo (drums) plus new member Ville (bass/vox).

"Sacrifice the King" is expected for release this coming June with a vinyl version coming later, and the band is already working on 12 new songs for a sophomore album. Check out the new song "Demon Gods" in the player below.

Today Convulse premieres the new track "Inner Evil" through Metalsucks.net. "Inner Evil" hails from the band's EP of the same title, set for international release on January 25th, 2013 through Svart Records. Check out the song right here.
This two-song EP features Convulse's first recordings in nearly 20 years, and will be available on CD, 12" vinyl, and digital-download formats. Recorded in full analog in the autumn of 2012, Convulse's "Inner Evil" consists two long, exclusive tracks.
After an 18-year break, Convulse returned in 2012 and played a few comeback shows in Finland. In addition, the band has already been confirmed to play next year's edition of the Maryland Deathfest, with more live appearances in the works. The following press release was also issued:"The band features the original vocalist, guitarist, and bass player in its ranks, and Convulse's brand of classic old-school death metal still sounds like it's 1991. With a new full-length album scheduled for autumn 2013 through Svart, this is the first recorded material by Convulse since the band's demise in the mid '90s."

"Our new material has a strong old-school death metal feel to it, and the band is tighter than ever before," says Convulse guitarist/vocalist Rami Jämsä.
